5th November 2020
The UK Kenya Tech Hub, Briter Bridges and the Association of Start-Up and SME Enablers of Kenya (ASSEK) announced a tripartite agreement to develop a platform that will centralise the information and efforts around the innovation ecosystem in Kenya. The collaboration will also leverage a digital platform which will operate as a one-stop-shop for the opportunities within the ecosystem and will offer real-time data snapshots of the ecosystem at any time. The partnership is anchored on leveraging different expertises, networks, and resources to spotlight the local innovation space and project the opportunities for entrepreneurs in the country at a national and global level.
Briter’ platform, Intelligence, allows data crowd-sourcing and updating, builds on existing research work, and permits capturing size and composition of the Kenyan ecosystem in a clear and accessible way. The tool aims at creating an avenue for investors and businesses with medium and long term plans to do business in Kenya. According to Briter Bridges’ Director Dario Giuliani, “Briter Intelligence is another step in building a “knowledge infrastructure” for underserved markets, and is founded upon the idea that more and better data have the potential to drive a proactive and opportunity-centred narrative on what happens across Africa’s innovative ecosystem”.
The UK-Kenya Tech Hub is an initiative of the UK government part of the Digital Access Programme, aimed at supporting the tech ecosystem, developing skills and building linkages within Kenyan as well as the UK and internationally.
Sheena Raikundalia, the Country Director of the UK- Kenya Tech hub says: “we are excited to partner with Briter and ASSEK to highlight the amazing tech entrepreneurs here in Kenya and help them link to investors and support providers both locally and internationally.”
The Association of Start Up and SME Enablers of Kenya (ASSEK), is an association that brings together and represents the interests of organisations supporting the development and growth of startups and SMEs."
ASSEK Chairperson, Bernard Chiira reiterated that “ASSEK is delighted to be a part of this partnership which will contribute significantly towards provision of research towards a live database which would be crowdsourced in real time from ASSEK membership. Data garnered from Briter will elevate and support different players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem through creating a direct pipeline between SMEs and Investors which has often proven hurdlesome for the innovation sector in the recent past .We are thrilled and cannot wait to rally our membership on utilising this platform.”
