The candidate we are after will:
be highly proficient in written 🖊️ and spoken 🎤 English and local languages.
be skilled in MS Office and Google Suite, particularly Excel and Google Sheets 🧮, and familiar with data software. Ability to create engaging presentations on PowerPoint or Google Slides is a plus;
pay close attention to detail;
be disciplined and organised, with an eagerness to learn;
have a strong interest in technology 📱, investment 💹, and business opportunities 💼 across Africa and emerging markets 🌍;
be familiar with industry jargon, including terms related to startups, investment, and core sectors;
be digitally competent 💻, including the ability and willingness to learn new software through online tutorials.
Good-to-haves:
Holding a Bachelor, Masters’ degree 🎓 or PhD in a relevant field or relevant working experience in the target industry;
Some experience (2-3 years) in roles such as data analysis, consulting, or operations within a startup or similar setting;
Familiarity with key data and research tools;
Personal projects, such as blogs, channels, or previous startup experience;
Working knowledge of additional languages (French, Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic, or Swahili);
Understanding of basic data science, data cleaning, and visualisation fundamentals;
A passion for continuous learning through platforms like Coursera, TED, Udemy, and others.
The candidate’s tasks will include:
Researching, collecting, cleaning, and analysing business and investment data;
Reporting to the research team, including the Data Lead, Data Manager, and Directors;
Curating and maintaining information on Briter’s flagship platform, Intelligence;
Processing large datasets with accuracy and attention to detail;
Creating visual content such as infographics, reports, presentations, and newsletters;
Assisting with the maintenance and updates of Briter’s analytics platform;
Supporting the team during calls or in-person meetings and assisting with note-taking.

The candidate will report directly to the Insights Lead and Director of Research and will be working alongside other Data and Research Analysts.
